Your baby at 8 months
Curiouser and curiouser. Little fingers are getting precise, and she's realizing she can make things happen in the world.
Development this month
Milestones show up across four areas — and they arrive in any order, at her own pace.
What you might notice
- Develops the pincer grasp (thumb + finger)
- Crawls or commando-crawls for many babies
- Understands 'no' by tone (won't always obey it!)
- Babbles with the rhythm of real speech
Sleep around this age
Sleep is the question new parents ask most — so here's the typical shape of it, gently. Some days won't match, and that's normal.
Down to 2–3 naps, with roughly 2–2.5 hours awake between them.
Ranges based on AAP, Polly Moore, and pediatric well-baby guidance. In the app, BabyBloomy predicts her next window from her own pattern — and never pings you between 10pm and 7am.
Feeding
First solids alongside milk — milk is still the main event. Purees or baby-led finger foods; expect more playing than eating at first.
Play & connection
Play is how she learns — and the easiest logging you'll do. A few ideas for right now:
- Fill-and-empty games with cups or a container
- Hide a toy under a cloth and 'find' it
- Cushion obstacle courses for crawling
- Name what she points at, every time
Moments worth keeping this month
The first years disappear fast. A two-tap log now becomes a page later.
- First pincer pickup
- A babble that sounds like a sentence
- Her 'I did that!' face
You might be wondering
Common now as object permanence grows. A steady, calm goodnight routine reassures her that you always come back.
Appetites vary hugely day to day. Offer, don't push — her hunger cues are more reliable than any amount chart.
